Rodriguez And Two Pirates Relievers Shut Down Cubs

Last updated on Thursday, April 4, 2013

(Pittsburgh, PA) - Wandy Rodriguez and a pair of relievers combined for a 2-hitter during the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-to-nothing shutout over the Chicago Cubs.

Rodriguez stuck out Brent Lillibridge to end a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning and was supported by seven-outs of perfect work from the bullpen in leveling the series against the Cubs.

Andrew McCutchen hit an RBI double in the fourth-inning to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead, and later scored on a fielding error by Cubs' short-stop Starlin Castro.

Starling Marte provided another insurance run in the bottom of-the-seventh inning with an RBI single to shallow left field.

Edwin Jackson earned the loss in his Cubs' debut after giving-up 2-runs in 5-innings pitched.

Jackson spent the majority of the 2011 season with the Chicago White Sox before joining the St. Louis Cardinals in a trade, and was solid in limiting the Pirates to 3-hits while striking out five.

Rodriguez earned the win after recording 6-strikeouts in six and-two-thirds innings pitched.

The Cubs and Pirates wrap-up their series at PNC Park this afternoon.

First pitch is at 12:35.
