Reds Thump Cardinals With Nine Runs In The Ninth Inning

(undated) - In the National League Monday, the Cincinnati Reds scored 9 runs in the ninth inning to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 13-4 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Brandon Phillips set off an offensive barrage in the ninth with a tie-breaking double that left reliever Mitchell Boggs with a grueling appearance of 6 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks.

Shin-Soo Choo recovered from two fielding errors by leading off the ninth inning with a walk and later drove in 3 runs with a double to finish off their regional rivals.

The Reds have a two game lead on St. Louis for first place in the Central Division.

The teams resume their series at Busch Stadium tonight at 8:15.
