Connaughton Leads Notre Dame Into Big East Quarterfinals

(New York, NY) - The Notre Dame Fighting Irish advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big-East Conference Tournament by beating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 69-to-61 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Pat Connaughton made 6 of 8, 3-point attempts in scoring a season-high 21 points in leading a 58-percent shooting effort by Notre Dame from beyond the arc.

The Fighting Irish advance to play the third-seeded Marquette Golden Eagles tonight, who defeated Notre Dame 72-64 almost two weeks ago.

Notre Dame will continue on against Marquette tonight in their final run at a Big-East tournament championship.

The Fighting Irish will leave the Big-East on July first to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference next season.
