Butler Officially Joins The Restructured Big East

Last updated on Thursday, March 21, 2013

(New York, NY) - Butler University will join nine other teams as the founding fathers of the restructured Big East Conference, marking the third departure by the private Indianapolis University from an NCAA sanctioned athletic body in three years.

A news conference was held late Thursday morning in New York City to officially announce the ten members of the new Big East, including Butler, Creighton, Xavier, and the group of universities referred to as "the Catholic Seven."

The event was hosted by Fox Sports Media Group, who revealed a 12-year agreement with the Big East that grants Fox multi-media rights to most conference athletic events, including men's and women's basketball and all Olympic sports.

Butler University President James Danko was present at the news conference and called the move "an unprecedented opportunity."

All ten schools will begin competition at the start of the 2013-2014 academic year.
