(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Lions Club is announcing the return of the Fitness Challenge 5k Run/Walk.

After a couple years layoff the Fitness Challenge is being brought back and the proceeds this year will benefit Blessings in a Backpack.

The race is March 9 at 8 a.m. starting at Englewood school. You can download a flyer online at www.mag7raceseries.com.

BNL freshman football workouts

All incoming 2013 freshmen interested in playing freshman football this fall for Bedford North Lawrence will start conditioning on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. The conditioning sessions will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m., at BNL Fieldhouse.

All players are to wear shorts, t-shirt and athletic shoes to each workout. It's strongly encouraged that all those interested in playing for the freshman Stars attend these workouts.

LC Orbit Soccer registrations

Lawrence County Orbit Futbol Club provides recreational travel leagues for local soccer players, and is currently accepting registrations.

Recreational programs are available for players from the age of 4 to 8th-grade. Orbit's goal is to provide an opportunity for kids of all skill levels a program in which they can learn soccer skills in a team environment with coaches to support them.

The 8-week spring season will begin in early April and continue through the end of May. Both paper and on-line registration is currently open until March 2. On-line registration can be completed at www.orbitfc.org. At the Orbit Futbol Club, paper registrations can also be printed and mailed in. Paper registration forms have also been distributed to local schools.

BGC baseball, softball signups

The Bedford Little League/Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County will be accepting registrations for baseball and softball for boys ages 5 through 15 and girls ages 5 through 12 through March 8 at the Limestone Club.

Also, any baseball players ages 13-14 who are interested in trying out for a spring travel team should contact Jase Gratzer at 812-508-2702, or Logan Jackson at 812-583-7128. Players will be expected to participate in summer recreation league as well.

MCYL baseball/softball registrations

The 2013 Mitchell Community Youth League baseball/softball sign-ups open to all Lawrence County and surrounding communities are being conducted at Burris gym from 9a.m. until 5 p.m. every Saturday now through March 9 . For more information, call (502) 376-2534, 797-9609, 278-6814 or 276-8802.

BNL soccer conditioning Tuesday

Conditioning for the upcoming Bedford North Lawrence girls fall soccer season gets under way Tuesday. Any girl who currently is in grades 8-11 who plans to play this fall is invited and encouraged to attend. The sessions will be conducted in the auxiliary gym at BNL from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursday.
