(New Orleans, LA) - The Baltimore Ravens are champions of the National Football League for the second time in franchise history, beating the San Francisco 49rs, 34-to-31, in Super Bowl 47 at the Super Dome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The game was overshadowed by an additional stoppage of play that occurred when the scoreboard and half of the overhead lights went dark at the Super Dome in the third quarter.
Jacoby Jones had just scored on a 108 yard kickoff return to give Baltimore a 28-6 lead when the power went out, allowing the 49rs to regroup and nearly steal the game from the Ravens.
San Francisco stormed back after the game resumed and had the ball trailing 34-29 with 4:19 left in the game.
A 24 yard pass completion to Michael Crabtree and a 33 yard run by Frank Gore helped give the 49rs a second-and-goal from the Baltimore five yard line.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw a trio of incomplete passes to Crabtree, ending the 49rs run at a sixth Lombardi Trophy in as many tries.
Ravens quarterback, Joe Flacco, was named Super Bowl MVP after a superb first half performance.
Flacco threw all three of his touchdowns in the first half and finished the game with 287 yards, three scores, and no interceptions.
The league retires into the early part of the offseason with the conclusion of last night's game.
The NFL scouting combine begins February 20th in Indianapolis and first round selections in the 2013 draft are made on April 25th.
