Boilers Knock Off Penn State Despite Shooting Woes

(University Park, PA) - The Purdue Boilermakers overcame an 0 of 10 shooting night behind the 3-point arc to beat the Penn State Nittany Lions, 58-49 at Bryce Jordan Center at University Park, Pennsylvania.

Penn State shot 30 percent from the field in remaining winless in the Big Ten Conference and took half as many foul shot than the Boilermakers.

A.J. Hammons is the reigning Big-Ten Freshman of the week and had 15 points, mostly on free throws, and 12 rebounds for Purdue.

Ronnie Johnson, another starting Freshman for the Boilermakers, had 16 points and five rebounds on the evening.

D.J. Newbill had 17 points for Penn State, who fall to 8-14 overall, 0-10 in the conference, and play at the Nebraska Cornhuskers Saturday night.

The Boilermakers are 12-11 on the season, 5-5 in the Big Ten, and host the number-eight Michigan State Spartans Saturday evening at Mackey Arena.
