Last updated on Tuesday, February 19, 2013

(Pittsburgh, PA) - The number 25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish overcame an abysmal start to upset the 20th ranked Pittsburgh Panthers, 51-to-42 at Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh.

The Fighting Irish missed 18 of their first 19 shots and trailed 19-3 with over seven minutes to go in the first half.

Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey was called for a technical foul, and Pat Connaughton made back-to-back 3-pointers to spur a 16-3 run by the Fighting Irish to close out the first half.

The team used another scoring run in the second half to take a 43-34 lead with under five minutes to play and never trailed again.

Jack Cooley and Jerian Grant led all scorers with 13 points each and Eric Atkins had ten points and seven assists for the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame is 21-6 overall, have a 9-5 conference record, and host the Cincinnati Bearcats Sunday afternoon.
