Last updated on Friday, January 25, 2013

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The number-two Michigan Wolverines increased their defensive intensity in the second half to win 68-53 over the Purdue Boilermakers at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor.

Purdue made 7-13 attempts behind the 3-point arc to grab a 33-to-32 halftime lead, but missed all nine 3-point attempts after the break in yielding to the heavily favored Wolverines.

Glenn Robinson III, the son of Purdue basketball icon Glenn Robinson, sparked a 14-2 scoring run in the second half with a 3-pointer that gave Michigan the lead, and later made it 49-40 by draining another three during the run.

The Wolverines held Purdue to a dismal 31 percent shooting from the field in staying perfect at home this season.

Terone Johnson had 14 points and DJ Byrd added 11 points and six rebounds for the Boilermakers.

Trey Burke led all scorers with 15 points for Michigan and Robinson III finished with 12 points.

The Wolverines are 18-1 overall, 5-1 in the Big Ten Conference, and travel to the Illinois Fighting Illini Sunday.

Purdue falls to 10-9 overall, 3-3 in the conference, and host the Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday afternoon at Mackey Arena.
