Last updated on Monday, January 28, 2013

(West Lafayette, IN) - The Purdue Boilermakers gutted out a 65-62 overtime win over the Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday evening at Mackey Arena.

Purdue have won four of their last five contests and turned in a defensive effort that reduced the Hawkeyes to 31 percent shooting from the field.

Terone Johnson led Purdue with 17 points and 12 rebounds and had a key put-back late in the overtime stanza that pushed the Boilermaker lead to three.

The younger Johnson brother, Freshman Ronnie Johnson, scored 15 points and Donnie Hale had 12 points off the bench for Purdue.

Mike Gesell had 18 points and four rebounds for Iowa, who falls to 13-7 overall, 2-5 in the Big-Ten, and host the Penn State Nittany Lions Thursday.

Purdue are 11-9 overall, 4-3 in the conference, and play their first of two games against the Indiana Hoosiers Wednesday at Mackey Arena.
