Pagano Returns With Win Over AFC South Champion Texans

Last updated on Monday, December 31, 2012

(Indianapolis, IN) - Head Coach Chuck Pagano returned to a standing ovation and Deji Karim had a kick return for a touchdown as the Indianapolis Colts vanquished the Houston Texans, 28-to-16 yesterday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Following the Colts win over the AFC South Champions, an emotional Pagano hugged players and personnel of both teams before celebrating the improbable victory in the locker room.

It was the Colts second win over a quality opponent since Pagano took a leave of absence in September to battle Leukemia and a precursor to Sunday's showdown against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Wildcard Round.

Karim's 101 yard score was the team's first kick return for a touchdown since December of 2010 and helped Indianapolis retake the lead late in the third quarter.

Andrew Luck completed 14 of 28 passes for 191 yards and had a 70 yard touchdown bomb to T.Y. Hilton that helped clinch the game for Indianapolis late in the game.

Andre Johnson had 141 yards on 12 catches for Houston and Foster ran for 96 yards and a touchdown. The Texans finish the season with a 12-4 record and fell to the three seed, missing the coveted first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Houston will host the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday at 1:00 in the Wildcard Round.

The Colts will open their playoff run this Sunday in Baltimore, who ended the regular season with a 23-17 defeat to the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Kickoff between the Colts and Ravens is at 1:00.
