(BEDFORD) - Bill and Kristi Spreen bore four strapping boys, all of them forged bull powerful by work on the family farm in Williams.

Jeff Bartlet of the Times-Mail reports that all four of them brought that strength and toughness to the Bedford North Lawrence football program.

The first three, Paul, Eric and Clint, achieved top-rate excellence for the Stars. Paul (2005 grad) and Eric ('06) were first-team All-Hoosier Hills Conference linebackers, and Clint ('10) overcame the loss of sight in one eye to become the starting center and All-HHC nominee.

Now, on the last try, they've gotten a Spreen sweep.

BNL senior linebacker Jack Spreen not only was named All-HHC first team, but just learned that he'd been named to the 2012 Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State first team for Class 5A.

It was the perfect topper to a stellar career Spreen, a ripped 6-foot-3-inch, 220-pound inside linebacker/fullback who runs a 4.7 40-yard dash, but appears far quicker in pads.
Spreen was not on the Associated Press All-State squad (chosen by sports writers and broadcasters), but in the eyes of BNL head Coach Bret Szabo the IFCA award is more prestigious because coaches pick the players who make it.

Spreen finished his senior season with 101 total tackles (87 solo) with 13 for loss, two sacks, four forced fumbles and two recoveries and two interceptions. He also had 327 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 54 carries on offense and didn't really start carrying the ball until late in the season.

Spreen, who has a 3.4 GPA, would love to play college football, and has a keen eye on Western Kentucky, which is coming off its best season in years and just hired Bobby Petrino as its new head coach. That school would allow Spreen to pursue his passions on the field and the classroom in agricultural studies, specifically animal science.
