Marlins Fire Guillen After One Season As Manager

Last updated on Wednesday, October 24, 2012

(Miami, FL) The Miami Marlins have fired Ozzie Guillen as team manager following one season of a four year contract.

Marlins Director of Baseball Operations, Larry Beinfest, called Guillen's termination an "organizational failure" and said the change was best for everyone moving forward.

Guillen's departure is attributed to Miami's last place finish in the NL East and another season of controversial statements in the managerial position, including a public lauding of former Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro that landed Guillen a five game suspension.

He previously spent eight seasons as manager of the Chicago White Sox and led the team to a World Series title in 2005.
