(San Francisco, CA) - The St. Louis Cardinals are facing elimination again in the National League Playoffs after losing game six of the NLCS to the San Francisco Giants, 6-to-1 at AT & T Park.

Tonight's contest in San Francisco marks the third time the Cardinals season will come down to an all-deciding game after blowing a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.

Ryan Vogelsong overpowered hitters in his seven innings pitched, striking out nine for his second postseason win in 2012.

Chris Carpenter pitched another short outing and was replaced after four innings for the second straight game.

Carpenter was charged with two of the five runs scored by the Giants, and was hampered by a defensive miscue by rookie Pete Kozma that led to a four run inning by the Giants.

Carpenter was trying to work out of a jam in the fourth when Vogelsong hit a chopper that Kozma bobbled at short stop.

Brandon Belt scored and Marco Scutaro followed with a two run double that made it 4-0.

Pablo Sandoval drove in his fifth run of the championship series with a single to centerfield that scored Scutaro.

Allen Craig provided the Cardinals with their only run of the game with an RBI in the sixth inning that scored Carlos Beltran.

Even worse for St. Louis is the questionable status of left fielder Matt Holliday for tonight's game seven.

Holliday was scratched from the lineup 45 minutes before the first pitch with tightness in his lower back and is a game time decision according to manager Mike Matheny.

Kyle Loshe and Matt Cain will pitch a rematch of the rain-delayed game three, where the Cardinals outlasted San Francisco 3-1 at Busch Stadium.

Game seven of the National League Championship Series begins at 8:00 tonight at AT&T Park.
