Last updated on Tuesday, October 2, 2012

(St. Louis, MO) - The St. Louis Cardinals clinched a tie for the second wild card spot by beating the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 at Busch Stadium.

Jaime Garcia evened his record at 7-7 by pitching into the seventh inning and striking out six, and helped his own cause by homering off Bronson Arroyo in third inning.

Allen Craig followed Garcia's second career home run with a run scoring double later in the inning, and Yadier Molina capped the three run third with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.

Danny Descalso drove in Molina in the sixth inning with a triple to deep center field.

Brandon Phillips was in the lineup for the Reds after tweaking his groin muscle while rounding second base Sunday, and had an RBI single in the Reds half of the third.

Reds manager Dusty Baker resumed his place on the bench for the first time since mid-September.

Baker was admitted to a Chicago hospital with an irregular heartbeat and was later informed that he suffered a mini-stroke.

The Cardinals can clinch the second wildcard by beating the Reds tonight.

Cincinnati is tied with the Washington Nationals for the best record in baseball, who lost to the Philadelphia Phillies Monday 2-0.
