(St. Louis, MO) - The Cincinnati Reds kept pace for the best record in baseball with a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

While the Reds locked up the NL Central crown weeks ago, the Cardinals finally clinched their invite to the wildcard round of the playoffs despite the loss.

The last team within striking distance of St. Louis, the Los Angeles Dodgers, fell out of contention last night by losing to the Giants.

Scott Rolen tied the game at 1-1 it in the fourth inning with his eighth home run this season, and Jay Bruce and Dioner Navarro added RBI singles in the sixth to give Cincinnati the 3-1 win.

Matt Latos earned win number fourteen by pitching five innings of one run ball. Chris Carpenter feel to 0-2 after allowing all three runs during his six innings pitched.

The second wildcard berth earns St. Louis a trip to Atlanta for a one game showdown Friday night against the Braves.

The winner Friday advances to the National League Division Series against Reds or the Washington Nationals, whichever team finishes the regular season with the best record in the National League.

The Nationals will be awarded the top seed if both teams win tonight on virtue of head-to-head record during the regular season.
