Last updated on Monday, September 17, 2012

(Joliet, IL) - Brad Keselowski drew first blood in NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup, winning the GEICO 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Jimmie Johnson led a race-high 172 laps but could not catch Keselowski at the end and finished second.

Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch and South Bend's Ryan Newman round out the top five.

Keselowski moves into the points lead by three over Johnson with Tony Stewart moving into third place, five points behind Keselowski.

Stewart finished in sixth place. Denny Hamlin, Kahne and Clint Bowyer are tied for fourth in the Chase, seven points behind Keselowski.

Bowyer finished tenth while Hamlin, who entered the race as the points leader, was 16th.

Dale Earnhardt Junior, Greg Biffle, Martin Truex Junior, Kevin Harvick and Matt Kenseth remain within striking distance of the leader.

Jeff Gordon had the worst afternoon of the twelve drivers competing for the Sprint Cup.

The former Pittsboro resident was involved in an accident and finished 25th.

Round Two of the ten-race Chase is Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
