Several State Schools Open Football Season Tonight

(undated) - Ball State opens the college football season tonight when they welcome Eastern Michigan to Scheumann Stadium for a Mid-American Conference game.

The Cardinals are coming off a 6-6 campaign, their first under head coach Pete Lembo. Junior quarterback Keith Wenning enters his third season as the Cardinals' starter.

The Eagles also went 6-and-6 last season under fourth-year head coach Ron English. Ball State holds a 30-21-2 advantage in the all-time series with the Cardinals pulling off a 33-31 victory in Ypsilanti last season.

Several small college football teams open their seasons tonight.

In the Championship Subdivision, The Butler Bulldogs are on the road at Western Illinois while the Valparaiso Crusaders are home to take on Division-Two St. Joseph's.

Another D-Two school, the University of Indianapolis, opens play tonight as the Greyhounds are on the road at Ashland.

In Division-Three, the Manchester Spartans head north to Angola to take on the Trine Thunder.
