Last updated on Thursday, August 23, 2012

(Chicago, IL) - Chris Sale outdueled Phil Hughes as the Chicago White Sox edged the New York Yankees 2-1 to sweep their three-game series at US Cellular Field.

Sale went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing a run on three hits while striking out 13 Yankees to improve to 15-4.

Kevin Youkilis put the Sox on top 1-0 with a sacrifice fly in the third.

Derek Jeter tied the game in the sixth when he hit a solo homer off Sale, but Alex Rios touched Hughes for a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to provide what proved to be the winning run.

Hughes went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits to fall to 12-11.

Chicago maintains its two-game lead over Detroit in the AL Central as the Tigers also won last night, beating Toronto at home.
