Richard Throws Five Hit Shutout As Cubs Lose Again

(San Diego, CA) - Clayton Richard fired a five-hit shutout as the San Diego Padres blanked the Chicago Cubs 2-0 to sweep their three-game series at Petco Park.

The Lafayette, Indiana native walked two and struck out five in moving to 9-11 on the year.

Will Venable put the Padres ahead to stay with an RBI double in the second inning off Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija.

Yonder Alonso added a run-scoring single in the eighth.

Samardzija went seven innings, giving up a run on four hits to take the loss and drop to 7-10.
