(Indianapolis, IN) - Andrew Luck made an impressive debut as the Indianapolis Colts won their preseason opener, defeating the St. Louis Rams 38-3 at Lucas Oil Stadium.

For his first pass as a pro, the number-one overall pick out of Stanford completed a short pass to Donald Brown across the middle and Brown ran 63 yards for a touchdown.

Luck completed 10 of 16 passes for 188 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Drew Stanton completed 8 of his eleven passes while rookie Chandler Harnish went 3-3 with a 33-yard scoring strike to Jeremy Ross.

St. Louis starter Sam Bradford completed 7 of 9 passes for 57 yards as he was in the game for a pair of series. The 38 points was the most for the Colts in a preseason game since 1989.

While much of the attention was focused on Luck, the Colts defense put in a good showing against the Rams.

Outside linebacker Jerry Hughes recorded both of the team's sacks, both against St. Louis backup quarterback Kellen Clemens.

Nose tackle Brandon McKinney recovered a Rams fumble with Chris Rucker picking off a pass from third-string QB Austin Davis.

The only offense St. Louis could muster was 37-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein. One negative in the game were injuries to linebacker Pat Angerer, running back Delone Carter and offensive lineman Mike McGlynn.

Angerer suffered a foot injury, Carter hurt his ribs and McGlynn sprained an ankle. The Colts will take today off and will return to the practice field at Anderson University on Tuesday.

They will hold a closed walk-through tomorrow morning before holding an open practice in the afternoon.

The Horseshoes will break camp following a practice on Friday morning before traveling to Pittsburgh on Saturday. The will face the Steelers in Game Two of the preseason on Sunday night at Heinz Field.
