(Bloomington, IN) - Indiana University basketball recruit Ron Patterson will transfer after failing to meet academic standards.

IU head coach Tom Crean confirmed Wednesday that the former Indianapolis Broad Ripple standout failed to meet academic requirements after attending summer school.

In a statement released by the University, Crean pledged his support for Patterson and that the school will work with him as allowed to help him reach his goals.

Patterson's AAU coach tells The Indianapolis Star that the 6-3 guard will likely enroll at another four-year school or prep school.

His departure does solve one problem for Crean as the Hoosiers had 14 scholarship players but only 13 scholarships to give.

Patterson was a four-year starter at Broad Ripple, averaging 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.8 assists as a senior.

He was named to the Indiana All-Star team this past spring and played in the series against the Kentucky All-Stars.
