Stewart Fined Following Daytona Inspection

Last updated on Wednesday, July 11, 2012

(UNDATED) - NASCAR docked Tony Stewart six championship points after his car failed a post-qualifying inspection for last Saturday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona.

In addition, crew chief Steve Addington and car chief Jeff Meendering were placed on probation until August 22nd and Addington was fined $25,000.

Stewart qualified second but his run was disqualified when the infraction involving a cooling hose was discovered.

The Columbus, Indiana native started 42nd but came through the pack to pick up his third win of the season.

The penalty drops Stewart into a fifth-place tie with Kevin Harvick in the Sprint Cup points standings.
