(Indianapolis, IN) - The Indiana Pacers will match Portland’s contract offer to center Roy Hibbert once the NBA’s moratorium period ends tomorrow.
The Indianapolis Star cites a source "with knowledge of the situation" as saying Indiana will match the Trail Blazers' four-year, 58-million-dollar offer sheet. The team cannot discuss Hibbert's situation during the moratorium period.
According to the report, the Pacers technically are not matching Portland's offer, but are extending their own four-year, 58-million dollar deal to avoid the process
The seven-foot-two center made his first All-Star team last season and averaged 12.8 points and 8.8 rebounds.
The Pacers' summer pro league team opened play Monday with a victory over the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers in Orlando.
Second-round draft pick Orlando Johnson was big in his debut in an Indiana uniform, leading the Pacers with a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds. Veteran Lance Stephenson added 13 points with first-round selection Miles Plumlee finishing with nine points and ten boards.
Jacob Pullen led the Sixers with 15 points.
The Pacers face the Oklahoma City Thunder this afternoon.
