(Indianapolis, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts opened a three-day camp for rookies and veteran players returning from injury Wednesday at the team’s headquarters.
The Colts practiced without second-round pick Coby Fleener and third-rounder Dwayne Allen.
Shortly after yesterday's workout, the team announced that it had come to terms with Allen, a tight end out of Clemson.
Fleener, a tight end out of Stanford, announced via Twitter last night that he has agreed on a contract.
This week's sessions are designed to give the rookies some concentrated work before training camp starts this weekend.
Among the veterans who worked out on Wednesday were offensive linemen Anthony Castonzo and Ben Ijalana as well as running back Delone Carter.
Players report to Anderson University on Saturday with the first workout of training camp on Sunday. One Colt who fits both the rookie and returning from an injury category is former Alabama defensive tackle Josh Chapman.
Chapman is coming off surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee and is not participating in this week's workouts.
Colts coach Chuck Pagano tells the Indianapolis Star that the fifth-round pick will likely start training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck is expected to get most of the repetitions in training camp as the number-one overall pick in last April's NFL Draft replaces Peyton Manning under center for the Colts.
The Colts have two weeks to get ready for the preseason opener August 12th against the St. Louis Rams at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The regular season begins on September 9th with the Colts heading up to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears.
The New England Patriots have released former Colts running back Joseph Addai.
The 29 year old Addai was released by the Colts in March and picked up by the Patriots in May.
He is coming off an injury-plagued 2011 season in which he ran for a career-worst 433 yards and one touchdown.
New England needed to clear room on its roster after signing veterans Visanthe Shiancoe and Tim Bulman.
