Activity Underway Today At Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Last updated on Thursday, July 26, 2012

(Indianapolis, IN) Activity gets underway today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the NASCAR Nationwide Series will have two practice sessions this afternoon on the IMS oval.

Those will be the only practice sessions for the Nationwide Series cars before qualifying on Saturday. The race is scheduled for late Saturday afternoon.

Elliot Sadler enters the weekend as the Nationwide Series points leader.

The main attraction of the "Super Weekend" is Sunday's Curtiss Shaver 400 Sprint Cup race.

The Sprint Cup cars will practice twice on Saturday with qualifying on Saturday afternoon before the Nationwide Series race.

Paul Menard is the defending champion while Matt Kenseth is the Sprint Cup points leader.

The Speedway's road course will be in use on Friday with practice, qualifying and races scheduled for GRAND-AM's Continental Tire Series and ROLEX Series sports cars.

It marks the first time that GRAND-AM races at IMS and it is also the first time the Speedway's oval and road course will be in use during the same weekend.

While the cars are new to the Speedway, there will be many familiar faces behind the wheel.

Former Indianapolis 500 winners Juan Pablo Montoya and Scott Dixon are entered with '500' veterans Scott Pruett, Sebastien Bourdais, Eliseo Salazar and Paul Tracy scheduled to participate.

NASCAR is also represented with 2010 Brickyard 400 winner Jamie McMurray sharing a car with Montoya and Boris Said also scheduled to compete.
