Wilson Retains Win, Fined For IndyCar Violation

Last updated on Tuesday, June 12, 2012

(Indianapolis, IN) - Justin Wilson will keep Saturday night’s IZOD IndyCar Series win at Texas Motor Speedway, but his Dale Coyne Racing team was penalized for a violation during the post-race technical inspection.

The car was found to have an unapproved sidepod element during the inspection. The team was fined 7,500 dollars and docked five entrant points.

Wilson picked up his second career win when leader Graham Rahal brushed the wall coming out of turn four with just over three laps remaining. Wilson got around Rahal's damaged car with two laps remaining to claim his first victory since winning at Watkins Glen in 2009.

It was also the second win for Dale Coyne Racing, which fielded Wilson's car at Watkins Glen three years ago.

The number-20 car of Ed Carpenter Racing was also found to have an issue with the wicker on the rear wing. The team was fined 5,000 dollars and docked one point. Carpenter finished twelfth on Saturday.
