'Push To Pass' Returning To IndyCar Series

Last updated on Thursday, June 28, 2012

(UNDATED) - The IZOD IndyCar Series is bringing back push to pass for the final five road and street course races this season.

Drivers will begin using the overtake assist feature beginning with the July 8th race at Toronto.

Push to pass was introduced to the IndyCar Series in 2009 after being used previously in the Champ Car World Series. The feature allows the driver to add turbocharger boost to his engine with the push of a button on the car's steering wheel.

The amount of additional boost, the number of times the button can be used, the amount of time the added power lasts and the amount of time between activations will be determined by IndyCar depending on the circuit.
