Young Racers Dominate Laps Around IMS

Last updated on Monday, May 14, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The young guns continue to top the speed chart as practice continues at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Sebastian Saavedra turned in the fast lap on Day Two of practice with a speed of 221.526 miles per hour.

A pair of rookies take up the second and third spots on the speed chart with Bryan Clauson and Josef Newgarden putting up laps in the 221.1 range. Both drive for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing.

Former 500 winner Scott Dixon and Justin Wilson round out the top five.

Practice continues today through Friday as teams work their way up to speed in preparation for Pole Day on Saturday.

Wade Cunningham passed his rookie test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. That leaves two rookies needing to pass their tests as well as one veteran needing to pass a refresher test.

Jean Alesi, Katherine Legge and Sebastien Bourdais will try to get cleared this week. Alesi has been unable to get his Lotus-powered car up to speed while Legge and Bourdais are still trying to get engines after their team - Dragon Racing - left the Lotus camp last week. Neither Legge nor Bourdais turned a lap over the weekend.
