Larry Bird's Future With Pacers, "Uncertain"

Last updated on Thursday, May 31, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird met with the media on Wednesday, addressing his uncertain future as well as the future of the franchise.

Bird says he would like to meet with team owner Herb Simon "sooner rather than later" to determine whether he will stay with the franchise.

The reigning NBA Executive of the Year has had a year-to-year handshake deal with Simon for the past couple of seasons, saying he loves his job but is not sure how much longer he wants to do it as he gets older.

Bird is focusing on June 28th's NBA draft and the start of free agency on July 1st. He would like to keep the team relatively intact, saying he loves the current makeup of the team and the atmosphere in the locker room.

Bird intends to re-sign restricted free agents Roy Hibbert and George Hill. He was less certain about the Pacers' unrestricted free agents Leandro Barbosa, AJ Price, Lou Amundson and Kyrylo Fesenko.

Bird will look for bench help, saying he was disappointed in the play of the second unit during the postseason, especially in the conference semifinal series with Miami.
