(INDIANAPOLIS) - A potential move of Butler University's athletic programs to the Atlantic 10 conference is reportedly on hold.

The Indianapolis Star reported on its website that athletic department leaders met on Monday to discuss potential membership in the A10, but that no announcement was made after the meeting and none appears to be imminent.

Speculation regarding a potential move has been circulating since March.

The Bulldogs currently compete in the Horizon League and a move to the A10 is believed to be an enhancement for the school's marquee men's basketball program. The major drawback would be increased travel costs. A study published in The Star indicates that moving to the Atlantic 10 would cost the school about 500,000 dollars annually in increased travel expenses for all sports.

Butler would not play in the A10 before the 2013-14 school year at the earliest. The conference is looking to replace Temple, which is joining the Big East following the 2012-13 season.
