Watford And Zeller Returning To The Hoosiers Next Season

Last updated on Wednesday, April 11, 2012

(BLOOMINGTON) - Christian Watford and Cody Zeller will remain at Indiana University and will play for the Hoosiers next season.

The University announced that both players are staying via a news release issued on Tuesday morning.

Zeller was IU's leading scorer and rebounder as a freshman, averaging 15.6 points and 6.6 boards this past season.

The Washington, Indiana native shared Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors with Michigan's Trey Burke and was named to the All-Big Ten second team.

Watford was second for the Hoosiers on both lists at 12.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Watford was named honorable mention All-Big Ten and his three-pointer at the horn gave Indiana a 73-72 upset victory over number-one Kentucky in December at Assembly Hall.

Both had been contemplating leaving early for the NBA Draft.

Watford will be a senior in the 2012-13 season while Zeller is entering his sophomore year.

They were the key figures in IU's return to national prominence as the Hoosiers finished 27-9, losing a rematch to the Wildcats in the Sweet-16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Indiana has been chosen the number-one team in the nation for the upcoming season in several preseason polls.
