(NEW ORLEANS, LA) - You can add the title “Hall-of-Famer” to Reggie Miller’s resume. The Indiana Pacers’ all-time leading scorer’s election to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame was announced on Monday at the Final Four in New Orleans.
Miller and the Class of 2012 will be inducted this September in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Miller retired in 2005 after 17 NBA seasons, all with the Pacers. At the time of his retirement, he was the league's all-time leader in three-point field goals made. Ray Allen broke that mark last season. He ranks as the Pacers' all-time leader in 13 categories, including points and steals.
Miller was a five-time NBA All-Star and won an Olympic Gold Medal in 1996.
He will be joined in the Class of 2012 by former Pacers center Mel Daniels, whose election by the ABA committee was announced in February. Daniels was a key member of Indiana's three championships in the old American Basketball Association. He was the leading rebounder in ABA history and is fourth on the league's all-time scoring list. He was named league MVP in 1969 and 1971.
Among the others joining Miller and Daniels in the twelve-person Class of 2012 are Don Nelson, the NBA's all-time winningest coach and a member of five Boston Celtics championship teams as a player, Jamaal Wilkes, Chet Walker and Ralph Sampson.
