New IndyCar Chassis Goes Around IMS

Last updated on Thursday, April 5, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The 2012 DW twelve IndyCar was in action at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday.

Nine of the new Dallara chassis turned laps yesterday as teams participated in an open test in preparation for next month's Indianapolis 500.

Several teams had problems getting on the track during the morning session due to engine problems. Teams were forced to be conservative as they were running the same engines that will be used next weekend at Long Beach.

Of the nine teams participating yesterday, five were powered by Chevrolet engines while four had Honda powerplants. Lotus did not participate in Wednesday's test as they have struggled getting enough engines built.

Chevrolet and Lotus are new engine suppliers as Honda had been the sole engine supplier to the IZOD IndyCar series since 2006. The new engines are smaller at 2.2 liters and are turbocharged for the first time since 1996.

There were no timing and scoring reports furnished to the media during yesterday's test session.
