(INDIANAPOLIS) - Lotus is releasing two IZOD IndyCar Series teams from their contractual commitments as the engine supplier looks to reduce its load.
The Indianapolis Star, citing a senior IndyCar official, reports that Dreyer and Reinbold Racing and Bryan Herta Autosport will be released from their Lotus deals. Herta and his driver, Alex Tagliani, are already skipping this weekend's race in Brazil due to Lotus' problems supplying engines.
Dreyer and Reinbold and Herta Autosport will negotiate with the series two other engine suppliers - Chevrolet and Honda - for powerplants for next month's Indianapolis 500.
In the original agreement between the IndyCar Series and the three engine suppliers, each was supposed to supply at least ten engines this season. Lotus was late to start and had been supplying engines for just six cars in the first three races.
IndyCar is allowing Lotus to focus on a smaller lineup but will require them to supply more teams in 2013.
