Hoosiers, Boilermakers and Fighting Irish Advance In Tourney Play

(UNDATED) - In men’s college basketball, Jordan Hulls scored 20 points, Cody Zeller added 19 points and ten rebounds as the Indiana Hoosiers beat Penn State 75-58 in the first round of the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis.

Christian Watford added 14 points, but it was not all good news for IU. Senior guard Verdell Jones left late in the first half with a knee injury. Jones was originally diagnosed with a right knee sprain and is expected to be re-evaluated today.

Tim Frazier led the Nittany Lions with 26 points with Trey Lewis scoring eleven as Penn State ends its season at 12-and-20.

The Hoosiers advance to this afternoon's quarterfinals where they will take on fourth-seeded Wisconsin. The badgers won their lone meeting with the Hoosiers 57-50 in Madison on January 26th.

Boilermakers Advance In Big Ten Tourney

Anthony Johnson scored a career-high 17 points and Terone Johnson added 16 to lead the Purdue Boilermakers to a 79-61 victory over Nebraska in their first-round Big Ten tournament game.

Ryne Smith finished with 15 points with Robbie Hummel and DJ Byrd scoring ten points apiece as the Cornhuskers stayed close early before the Boilers started pulling away.

Bo Spencer scored a game-high 22 points for Nebraska with Toney McCray adding 13 as the cornhuskers end their season at 12-and-18.

Purdue moves to 21-and-11 heading to their quarterfinal matchup with third-seeded Ohio State tonight.

Fighting Irish Top Bulls In Overtime

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame advanced to the semifinals of the Big East tournament, getting past sixth-seeded South Florida 57-53 in overtime.

Pat Connaughton and Jerian Grant led the third-seeded Irish with twelve points each with Scott Martin adding ten points and twelve rebounds. Eric Atkins was held scoreless for the first 40 minutes before scoring six of Notre Dame's twelve points in OT.

Victor Rudd Junior led the Bulls with a game-high 16 points with Anthony Collins scoring 13 as USF falls to 20-and-13.

The Irish improve to 22-and-10 heading to their semifinal game with seventh-seeded Louisville late tonight.
