(INDIANAPOLIS) - Dwight Freeney will remain an Indianapolis Colt according to general manager Ryan Grigson.
Grigson made his comments during a conference call on Monday, dismissing reports that the Colts are looking to trade their seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end. Grigson also says the Colts are not looking to renegotiate Freeney's current contract, which will cost the Horseshoes 19-million dollars against the salary cap.
The G-M adds that he does not anticipate coming to terms early with the number-one overall pick before the NFL Draft on April 26th. The Colts are believed to be targeting Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck but have also looked at reigning Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III.
The Colts have been awarded three compensatory picks in next month's draft. The announcement was made at the NFL owners meetings in Palm Beach, Florida on Monday.
Indianapolis will receive additional picks in the fifth, sixth and seventh rounds, numbers 170, 206 and 253 overall. Pick number 253 will be the final one of the draft.
Compensatory picks are given to teams when they lose more quality players to free agency than they acquire.
The Colts lost three starters - offensive linemen Charlie Johnson and Kyle DeVan and linebacker Clint Session - following the 2010 season.
