(HARTFORD, CT) - Notre Dame won its first outright Big East Regular Season Championship in women’s basketball with a 72-59 victory over number-four Connecticut in Hartford.

Natalie Novasel led the Fighting Irish with 21 points with Skylar Diggins finishing with 20 points as Notre Dame improves to 28-2, 15-1 in the conference.

Tiffany Hayes led UConn with 22 points as the Huskies drop to 26-4, 13-3 in Big East play.

It was the second-straight home loss for Connecticut, the first time the Huskies have lost back-to-back home games in 19 years.

It is the second Big East regular season title for the Irish.

They shared the title with UConn in 2001 en route to the team's lone National Championship.
