(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Indianapolis Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian and General Manager Chris Polian became the first victims of the team’s 2-14 season.
Both were fired Monday by Team Owner Jim Irsay.
Irsay held a news conference late Monday afternoon, saying "it was time" for the team to part company with the Polians.
Bill Polian joined the Colts in 1998 and led the franchise to unprecedented success behind quarterback Peyton Manning, who was Polian's first draft choice in Indianapolis.
Chris Polian was elevated to Vice President and General Manager in 2008, but didn't start making the day-to-day decisions until this past season when his father was elevated from President to Vice Chariman.
Irsay says the contract of Director of Football Operations Steve Champlin will not be renewed.
Jim Caldwell remains head coach of the colts pending the hiring of a new general manager.
Jim Irsay says the hiring of a new general manager could take multiple weeks and that the new GM will have say in evaluating Caldwell and the rest of the coaching staff.
Caldwell held his weekly news conference as normal on Monday afternoon, saying he was "moving forward, until otherwise notified."
Caldwell succeeded Tony Dungy as head coach in 2009, leading the Colts to Super Bowl 44 where they lost to New Orleans.
Caldwell also led the Colts to the playoffs in 2010 despite a rash of injuries.
The Colts could not overcome the absence of quarterback Peyton Manning this past season as they lost their first 13 games before finishing at 2-14.
