Danica Patrick Will Not Race In This Year's Indianapolis 500

Last updated on Tuesday, January 24, 2012

(CONCORD, NC) - Danica Patrick will race in NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 on May 27th and not in the Indianapolis 500.

The Sprint Cup Series' longest race has been run on the same day as the 500 for the past several years.

Patrick is making the transition to driving full time in NASCAR's Nationwide Series with JR Motorsports and is driving select Sprint Cup races for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Patrick has driven in seven 500's with her third-place finish in 2009 the best for a woman in the event's history. She finished in the top ten in six of her seven races at Indianapolis.

She says she would like to race in the 500 again and possibly do the double, running in Indianapolis and Charlotte on the same day, but that she could not make it work this season.

Three drivers, including Patrick's Sprint Cup Car Owner Tony Stewart, have attempted to run both races.

The others to run the double are John Andretti and Robby Gordon.
