Colts Introduce Ryan Grigson As New General Manager

Last updated on Thursday, January 12, 2012

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Indianapolis Colts Owner Jim Irsay introduced Ryan Grigson as the team’s new General Manager on Wednesday afternoon.

Grigson comes to the Colts after spending nine years with the Philadelphia Eagles, the last two as Director of Player Personnel.

The Highland, Indiana native was a tight end and offensive lineman at Purdue and played professionally with Cincinnati and Detroit before going to Toronto of the CFL.

After suffering a career-ending injury, Grigson became a scout before eventually landing in the front office with the Eagles. Irsay says Grigson will have traditional GM duties - controlling the 53-man roster and the coaching staff with the owner retaining final say.

Grigson will spend his first days on the job evaluating the people he has inherited.

The primary decision will be regarding Head Coach Jim Caldwell and his staff.

Irsay says he does not expect a decision on Caldwell's future until sometime next week.

It is believed that Irsay will make the decision on whether or not to pay Peyton Manning's 28 million dollar option bonus on March 8th or cut the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player.

Grigson will have tough decisions to make on popular players with expiring contracts, including defensive end Robert Mathis, wide receiver Reggie Wayne and center Jeff Saturday.
