Last updated on Wednesday, December 28, 2011

(COLUMBUS, IN) - Columbus East quarterback Gunner Kiel will play his college football for LSU.

The 2011 Indiana Mister Football announced Tuesday that he selected the Tigers over Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. The 6-foot-4, 215 pound Kiel committed to Indiana in July but reopened his recruitment in October.

IU went 1-and-11 this season while LSU will face Alabama in the BCS championship game on January 9th.

The Tigers lose senior quarterbacks Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee after this season.

Kiel led Columbus East to a 12-and-2 record, passing for 2,517 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also rushed for 482 yards and eleven scores as a senior.

Kiel will enroll early at LSU and says he hopes to compete for the starting job as a true freshman. He is the nephew of Blair Kiel, who played quarterback at Notre Dame and in the NFL for three teams, including the Indianapolis Colts.
