Freeney Named To Pro Bowl Team

Last updated on Wednesday, December 28, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts return to team headquarters today to begin preparing for their regular season finale with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The game will be played New Year's Day in Jacksonville. The Colts are 2-and-13 but are riding a two-game winning streak heading to Sunday's game with the struggling Jags. Jacksonville is coming off a loss in Tennessee last Saturday that dropped the Jaguars to 4-and-11.

The Colts tied a franchise record by starting the season with 13-consecutive losses before putting together back-to-back wins over Tennessee and Houston. The Jaguars showed some life three weeks ago when they pounded Tampa Bay 41-14, but they have backed that up with road losses to Atlanta and Tennessee.

A Colts loss will give the horseshoes the top overall pick in April's NFL draft. They are tied with St. Louis for the worst record in the league and would get the number-one pick if they remain tied with the Rams following Sunday's games. St. Louis wraps up its season at home Sunday when the rams host the NFC west champion San Francisco 49ers.

Freeney Named To Pro Bowl Team

Defensive end Dwight Freeney is the Colts' lone selection to the Pro Bowl. Freeney earned his seventh Pro Bowl trip despite recording his lowest sack total since 2007. Freeney is the franchise's all-time sack leader and reached the 100-sack milestone three games ago at Baltimore.

It marks the first time the Colts have just one player going to Hawaii since 1998, when Marshall Faulk was the team's lone representative.

Second-year linebacker Pat Angerer was thought to be the Colts' best bet for going to the Pro Bowl. Angerer is currently fourth in the NFL in tackles and was second in fan balloting at linebacker, but was left off the list.

The Pro Bowl will be played in Honolulu on January 29th.
