Colts Return To Practice Field

Last updated on Thursday, December 29, 2011

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The Indianapolis Colts returned to the practice field Wednesday minus starting quarterback Dan Orlovsky.

The team listed Orlovsky's absence as "personal", but several reports say he was away because his wife gave birth to triplets. Orlovsky will be going for another triple on Sunday - his third-straight win as a starter when the Colts face the Jaguars in Jacksonville.

The horseshoes are 2-and-13 and a win this weekend could knock them down to the number-two slot in April's NFL draft. The Jaguars are 4-and-11 and are coming off a loss at Tennessee last Saturday.

Colts Injury Report

Four Colts sat out Wednesday's practice due to injury or illness. AJ Edds and Joe Reitz were sidelined by ankle injuries while Phillip Wheeler missed practice with a foot injury.

Later in the day, the Colts placed Wheeler on injured reserve after claiming wide receiver / kick returner Quan Cosby off waivers from Denver.

Anthony Gonzalez was absent due to illness.

Tight end Dallas Clark was back at practice after missing the last two games with a neck burner.

For the Jaguars, Maurice Jones-Drew sat out Wednesday's practice to nurse an ankle injury suffered in last Saturday's loss to the Titans.

Mathis Named AFC Defensive Player Of The Week

Colts defensive end Robert Mathis is the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Mathis had two sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and three tackles in last Thursday night's 19-16 win over the Houston Texans.

It is the third time in his career that Mathis has won defensive player of the week honors - the first time since 2008. It is the first time this season that any Colts player has been named player of the week.
