(NEW YORK, NY) - NBA players rejected the league’s latest attempt at a new collective bargaining agreement yesterday.
The players also notified the league of their intentions to decertify the union and sue the NBA, which would deal a mortal blow to the remainder of the 2011-2012 season.
The league submitted their latest CBA proposal Thursday following a week of marathon negotiating sessions with players.
The proposal, however, was a passive-aggressive attempt by Commissioner David Stern to force players into an unfavorable agreement.
Stern repeatedly said that the next offer would scale back on concessions made towards players, identifying the league's proposal as an ultimatum.
Even before today's vote, sources indicated that the players were unimpressed with the league's latest offer and team representatives would likely vote against it today.
Stern said monday that the season was in real jepordy, and that the league was heading for a "nuclear winter."
Even if the union is scuttled and the league is sued, the two sides may continue negotiating throughout the legal process.
Stern said he would not cancel the rest of the season this week.
