Crean Commits Secondary Recruiting Violation

Last updated on Wednesday, October 12, 2011

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Indiana University Basketball Coach Tom Crean committed a secondary recruiting violation involving impermissible contact with a recruit.

The university issued a statement saying that Crean made contact with the recruit on October 6th, one day after the period for contacting recruits ended.

Indiana self-reported the violation to the NCAA the same day.

Several reports say that Crean visited Hamilton Southeastern guard Gary Harris, a six-foot-four senior who is also being recruited by Kentucky, Purdue and Michigan State.

ESPN.com reports that IU has docked itself two days on the recruiting trail as punishment for the violation.
