(LINCOLN, AL) - Clint Bowyer failed to qualify for NASCAR’S “Chase for the Championship,” but that didn’t stop the Richard-Childress driver from pulling off a dramatic sprint cup victory at Talladega Superspeedway yesterday.
In fact, only one driver in "The Chase," Brad Keselowski, finished in the top five.
Coming off the sixth caution of the race, Bowyer was able to slingshot past Jeff Burton and cross the finish line nearly two one-hundredths of a second in first.
The victory also gave Richard Childress his one-hundredth win all-time as a team owner. After Burton, Dave Blaney finished third, then Keselowski and Brian Vickers.
Tony Stewart did the best out of the three Indiana "Chase" drivers. Stewart's seventh place finish helped him gain one stop to fourth in the Sprint Cup Standings.
Ryan Newman made contact with Stewart, his teammate, on lap 97.
Newman spun out and headed for the garage after sustaining damage to the front of his car. He finished 38th on the day.
Jeff Gordon finished 27th and is tenth in points with four races to go.
Carl Edwards is first in the points standings, followed by Matt Kenseth and Keselowski.
