(SOUTH BEND, IN) - The Notre Dame Basketball team will be without forward Tim Abromaitis for the first four games of the upcoming season.
Abromaitis will be forced to miss the four games because he played in two exhibition games three years ago before sitting out the rest of the season to preserve a year of eligibility.
Abromaitis was a sophomore at the time and the NCAA only allows freshman to play in exhibition games and sit out the regular season to preserve eligibility.
Head Coach Mike Brey blamed himself for misunderstanding the rule and reported the mistake to the school's compliance office three years ago.
The NCAA gave Notre Dame a waiver due to the coaching staff's misunderstanding of the rule, preserving Abromaitis' fifth year of eligibility provided he sits out the four games.
