Punto's Clutch Hitting Leads Cardinals Past Pirates

(PITTSBURGH, PA) - Nick Punto hit a go-ahead RBI double and scored on Albert Pujols’ sacrifice fly as the St. Louis Cardinals scored twice in the top of the ninth to get past the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4.

Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter hit a two-run double with Yadier Molina and John Jay adding RBI doubles.

Andrew McCutchen had a two-run home run and Derrek Lee added a solo shot for the Pirates with both long balls coming off Carpenter, who did not figure in the decision.

The Cardinals remain six and-a-half games behind first-place Milwaukee in the NL Ccentral.
