(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Erin Phillips hit a twelve-foot jumper with one and-a-half seconds remaining to give the Indiana Fever a 74-72 victory over the New York Liberty in game one of their best-of-three WNBA Eastern Conference Semifinal Series.
The Fever took the lead for good early in the first quarter when Tammy Sutton-Brown's layup gave them a 6-4 advantage with 7:37 left in the first quarter.
Indiana would build the advantage to 15 late in the second quarter, but New York would chip away throughout the second half.
The Libs came all the way back to tie the game when Kia Vaughn hit a pair of free throws with just under 51 seconds remaining to even it up at 72.
Katie Douglas missed a shot but Cappie Pondexter turned the ball over, setting up Phillips' turnaround game-winner.
Douglas led all scorers with 25 points with Tamika Catchings finishing with 15 points and Tammy Sutton-Brown adding 14. Phillips scored just six points.
Pondexter led the Liberty with 18 points but missed a 24-footer at the horn.
Game two is Saturday afternoon at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Game three, if necessary, will be played Monday night at Conseco Fieldhouse.
